Puerto Rico, one of two U.S. territories in the Northeast and Islands Region, has more than 500,000 preK–12 students in about 1,500 schools across urban centers and rural areas. REL-NEI has worked closely with the Puerto Rico Department of Education to provide research support on a broad range of issues, including low-performing schools, accountability, data-driven decision-making, and school leadership. REL-NEI has convened Puerto Rican education stakeholders across diverse levels and organizations, from university faculty to school principals to non-governmental organization executives. REL-NEI also has participated actively on committees with the Secretary of Education.
