Impact: Puerto Rico

Puerto RicoPuerto Rico, one of two U.S. territories in the Northeast and Islands Region, has more than 500,000 preK–12 students in about 1,500 schools across urban centers and rural areas. REL-NEI has worked closely with the Puerto Rico Department of Education to provide research support on a broad range of issues, including low-performing schools, accountability, data-driven decision-making, and school leadership. REL-NEI has convened Puerto Rican education stakeholders across diverse levels and organizations, from university faculty to school principals to non-governmental organization executives. REL-NEI also has participated actively on committees with the Secretary of Education.
