Sandra Espada-Santos: Bridging REL-NEI, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands (Jul/Aug 2009)
Both Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands face education issues that are similar to those on the mainland, such as accountability to No Child Left Behind (NCLB), but that also are significantly different. Sandra Espada-Santos, REL-NEI’s liaison to these two island jurisdictions, believes it is her role to explore and explain these issues within the larger context of the Northeast and Islands Region. |

Puerto Rico Elementary School Welcomes Governing Board (Jan/Feb 2009)
At the most recent REL-NEI Governing Board meeting on October 2–3 in Puerto Rico, Board members spent an enjoyable morning with the students, teachers, and principal of Fairview Elementary School, about half an hour outside San Juan.

Continuing the Conversation: Puerto Rico Stakeholders Meet on Low-Performing Schools (Jan/Feb 2009)
Since the March 2008 conference on “High-Risk Student Populations,” State Liaison Rosa Santiago-Marazzi has fostered a discussion among education leaders in Puerto Rico who traveled to Rhode Island for the event. This stakeholders group has identified top priorities and received input from REL-NEI researchers to keep the conversation going. |

La Dra. Rosa Santiago-Marazzi es el enlace entre el Laboratorio Regional Educativo del Noreste e Islas (REL-NEI) y Puerto Rico y tiene la responsabilidad de evaluar las necesidades de investigación en educación en la isla, particularmente relacionadas al desarrollo de políticas educativas e informar a las autoridades educativas sobre los servicios y el apoyo que REL-NEI puede brindar. |
