Policy Challenges Conferences: Bridging Research and Practice hosts regular events with targeted audiences around the Northeast and Islands Region to bring evidence to practitioners, from IES Practice Guides published by panels of experts to key findings from REL-NEI’s research staff. Table talks, Q&A with expert speakers, and breakout sessions all serve to advance the conversation and connect research to practice.

Structuring Out-of-School Time to Improve Academic Achievement (October 2010)
REL Northeast and Islands co-hosted two Policy Challenges Conferences in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to present the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Practice Guide “Structuring Out-of-School Time to Improve Academic Achievement.” Co-authors Dr. Jessica Taylor, of The College of William And Mary, and Dr. Steven M. Ross, of Johns Hopkins University, presented the Guide to 170 teachers, tutors, counselors, administrators, and others who work with Puerto Rican youth afterschool. Participants received copies of the Practice Guide, and presentations during the events were translated into Spanish. |
