Impact: Virgin Islands

Virgin IslandsThe U.S. Virgin Islands, the smallest and least populated jurisdiction in the Northeast and Islands Region, has roughly 16,000 students enrolled in 34 public schools. REL-NEI worked closely with the Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE) to provide research assistance to educational leaders in their planning of policies related to cultural education. REL-NEI researchers also delivered a technical report describing the characteristics of the academic achievement of Hispanic students enrolled in the Virgin Islands school system to assist the department in assessing their needs. Currently, REL-NEI’s work in the Virgin Islands focuses on dropout prevention and data systems
