New Hampshire High School Redesign Forum: Moving from High Schools to Learning Communities

Nearly 300 educators from around New Hampshire attended this daylong conference in Bedford, New Hampshire, to explore how the state’s secondary schools could transform themselves now that New Hampshire’s dropout age has increased from 16 to 18. Co-sponsored by REL-NEI and the New Hampshire State Board of Education, the forum included presentations by state education leaders, breakout sessions on key strategies for reforming high schools, and a keynote address by Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond, Professor of Education at Stanford University and a national expert on high school redesign. Policy Challenges Conference: Bridging Research and Practice: High-Risk Student Populations

More than 100 educators, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders representing all states and jurisdictions in the Northeast and Islands Region attended this two-day conference in Providence, Rhode Island.
The conference showcased REL-NEI research projects that examine issues in high-risk student populations and offered participants the opportunity to discuss how this research may affect their decisions regarding state education policies. Dr. Ronald Ferguson, Director of the Achievement Gap Initiative at Harvard University, offered the keynote speech: “Organizing our Thinking About Research to Help High-Risk Student Populations Achieve Their Academic Potential.” Video available.
