Research shows a link between students’ classroom behavior and academic performance. At the 2009 annual conference of the Region 1 Parent Centers, REL-NEI sponsored a keynote address that highlighted the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Practice Guide, “Reducing Behavior Problems in the Elementary School Classroom.” Dr. Krista Kutash, one of the primary authors, presented the Practice Guide and talked about the research behind its recommendations to staff members at federally funded parent centers in New England, New York, and New Jersey. Participants departed with a strong understanding of the latest research as well as concrete strategies and resources to help parents, teachers, and students improve classroom behavior.
