Webinar: When Is Bullying More Likely to Be Reported to School Officials?

Tuesday, September 21, 2010
12:00–1:00 PM EDT
HOSTED BY
Regional Educational Laboratory Northeast and Islands
OVERVIEW
Bullying often goes unreported in U.S. schools, making the problem difficult for school officials to identify and manage. REL Northeast and Islands researchers identified 11 characteristics linked to increased reporting of bullying to school officials. In this webinar, co-authors Anthony Petrosino and Sarah Guckenburg share the findings from their newly published Issues & Answers Report, “What Characteristics of Bullying, Bullying Victims, and Schools Are Associated with Increased Reporting of Bullying to School Officials?” For example, when bullying involved injury, physical threats, destruction of property, physical contact, greater frequency, multiple types, more than one location, or at least one occurrence on a school bus, bullying victims were more likely to indicate that their victimization was reported to a school official.

REL-NEI Webinars provide an interactive forum for state education agencies, superintendents, principals, district level specialists, association heads, state legislatures, teachers unions, and parent associations seeking applied education research to make policy and practice decisions leading to improved student achievement and reduced performance gaps. These sessions not only present findings but place a special emphasis on connecting applied education research to the work of field practitioners.
