Tuesday, May 4, 2010
1:00–3:00 PM EDT
HOSTED BY
Regional Educational Laboratory Northeast and Islands, New England Comprehensive Center, and National Comprehensive Center for Teacher Quality
OVERVIEW
Defining, measuring, and rewarding teacher effectiveness is a challenge facing schools, districts, and states nationwide. This webinar will convene representatives from a newly formed initiative, the New England Collaborative for Educator Quality and Effectiveness (NECEQE), to explore these challenges. State teacher-effectiveness leaders from each of the six New England states and invited colleagues will hear Dr. Douglas Harris present current research on value-added models for measuring teacher effectiveness. Dr. Harris is an economist who researches how the level and equity of student educational outcomes are influenced by education policies. After learning about the research base, participants will have an opportunity to pose questions and engage in dialogue with Dr. Harris about specific strategies for implementing value-added models.

REL-NEI Webinars provide an interactive forum for state education agencies, superintendents, principals, district level specialists, association heads, state legislatures, teachers unions, and parent associations seeking applied education research to make policy and practice decisions leading to improved student achievement and reduced performance gaps. These sessions not only present findings but place a special emphasis on connecting applied education research to the work of field practitioners.
