A newly published Issues & Answers Report from the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) documents initiatives by state education agencies (SEAs) in the Northeast and Islands Region to support educators at the district and school levels who are developing their capacity to use data for decision-making. “How State Education Agencies in the Northeast and Islands Region Support Data-Driven Decision-Making in Districts and Schools” provides examples of how SEA and school officials might support data-driven decision-making (DDDM) in their jurisdictions. The report further profiles service providers who, under contract to SEAs, provide professional development and technical assistance services to schools and districts as they work to implement DDDM in their districts.
In this webinar, Project Leaders Michelle LaPointe and Melissa Kagle presented the report’s methodology and findings. They reviewed their report’s definition of “data-driven decision-making” and described four components of the DDDM initiatives they studied: data systems/warehoure, data tools for analysis and reporting, training on tools, professional development on the use of data. In addition, they discussed funding sources for DDDM and some of the obstacles districts and schools face in implementing DDDM.
