Retaining high-quality teachers and reducing turnover are key issues for education policymakers across the Northeast and Islands Region. In this webinar, REL-NEI researchers Sarah Guckenburg and Susan Mundry, of Learning Innovations at WestEd, and Abigail Jurist Levy, of EDC, presented findings from two recently published REL-NEI research reports. The first describes a sample of programs and policies to increase teacher retention in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont. The second examines the distribution of high-quality teachers in urban, suburban, and rural New York State.
The webinar also connected the research to the work of regional field practitioners, and two representatives of the Maine Department of Education—Daniel Conley and Barbara Moody—provided personal reflections on how they can apply the findings to their work.
