The USVI Alliance and Dr. Helen Duffy discuss the link between literacy and success in higher education and the workforce, with a focus on the US Virgin Islands. Dr. Duffy discussed why culturally responsive instructional practices are essential to literacy development and college and career readiness. She described why attending to teacher pipelines is one key strategy for addressing this need and explained the goals of the USVI P–16 Council Teacher Pipeline Task Force. Denise Gomes, program manager for curriculum and instruction at the USVI Department of Education, shared reactions to the presentation and how the content can be applied to the USVI context. This event was held at the University of the Virgin Islands St. Croix campus, with remote access via webinar.
