New York State Receiving More Than $2 Billion
On May 11th, more than $2 billion in recovery funds will become available for New York to save teaching jobs and drive education reform. New York will be eligible to apply for another $996 million this fall. Today's funding is being made available per New York's successful completion of Part 1 of the State Stabilization Application, which was made available on April 1st.
On May 11th in Vermont, the DOE announced a Title I/Title IID Conference Call scheduled for May 21, 2009 for Consolidated Federal Programs (CFP) Staff. The DOE is planning to hold an open forum for CFP staff on Thursday, May 21, 2009 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. to discuss how LEAs are approaching the use of CFP ARRA funds (Titles I and IID). On May 8th, Maine added the SAU Application for Initial Stabilization Funds to its Recovery website. This included the SFSF Application Form (PDF). This is the short application form that includes the "assurances" as required by ARRA. This application is due by May 20th to receive FY09 restoration of curtailment in June. Also included is the Informational Letter 100 that is the application for School Administrative Units for State Fiscal Stabilization Funds. (Maine received notice from the US Department of Education that $130 million (67%) of Maine’s State Fiscal Stabilization Funds were awarded, on April 28th.)
On May 6th, in Concord, New Hampshire, Governor John Lynch and the Executive Council accepted more than $39 million in special education and Title I education funding to help local New Hampshire school districts. The Governor and Council accepted $23.7 million in stimulus funds for special education, and $15.4 million in Title I. The more than $39 million in stimulus funding will be sent to local school districts to help lessen the impact the national recession is having on local budgets.
On May 7th, the New Hampshire Department of Education posted documents summarizing education programs expected to bring ARRA funds to the state. These programs include Early Headstart, Educational Technical Assistance, Educational Technology State Grants, Education for the Disadvantaged Homeless Students, Education for the Disadvantaged Innovation and Improvement, Education for the Disadvantaged School Improvements, Education for the Disadvantaged Special Education Idea Section, Education for the Disadvantaged Special Education Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities, Education for the Disadvantaged Title 1 Section 1125, Education Innovation Fund State Stabilization Fund, Head Start, Rehabilitation Services and Disability Research, State Fiscal Stabilization Fund.
