Duncan Announces Priorities for $650M Innovation Fund
On October 7th, the Vermont Department of Education posted IDEA-B Certification Letters. The letters certify that, “the infrastructure investment has received the full view and vetting required by law and the Commissioner accepts responsibility that the investment is an appropriate use of taxpayer dollars.” Certification letters include a description of the investment, as well as the estimated and total cost.
On October 6th, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) announced that the ARRA reporting system had closed for the first quarterly report. Reports from all ARRA sub-recipients were due October 1st for the quarter ending September 23rd. Department staff will contact recipients for revisions to submitted reports beginning on Tuesday, October 13th. Reports that were not submitted by October 6th at 10 a.m. can be submitted in the second quarterly report due December 31st. In Washington, D.C., on October 6th, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the Department’s priorities for grants under the $650 million Investing in Innovation Fund (i3). The fund, which is part of the historic $5 billion investment in school reform under ARRA, will support local efforts to start or expand research-based innovative programs that help close the achievement gap and improve outcomes for students.
In Education Week’s blog “Inside School Research,” Debbie Viadero on October 2nd reported that the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) is planning a major study of Stimulus spending.
